Overview

The journey to Everest Base Camp is more than just a hike; it is a walk through the heart of the Khumbu region, the home of the legendary Sherpas. Starting with a thrilling flight to the mountainside airstrip of Lukla, the trail winds through the lush Sagarmatha National Park, crosses high suspension bridges draped in prayer flags, and climbs through ancient pine and rhododendron forests.

You will spend two dedicated acclimatization days in the vibrant hub of Namche Bazaar and the high-altitude village of Dingboche. As the trees disappear and the landscape becomes a dramatic moonscape of rock and ice, you will reach Gorak Shep and finally stand at the foot of the world's highest peak. The journey culminates with a sunrise climb of Kala Patthar for the most iconic 360-degree view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, an Ever Nepal Adventure representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. In the evening, we will have a pre-trip briefing and a welcome dinner to introduce you to your guide and the rest of the group.

Day 2: Flight to Lukla & Trek to Phakding (2,610m)

We take an early morning scenic flight to Lukla. After meeting our porters, we begin a gentle descent along the Dudh Koshi River, passing through several small Sherpa villages and mani stones to reach Phakding.

  • Flight: 35 minutes
  • Trek: 3–4 hours (8km)

Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

The trail follows the river and enters the Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. After crossing the high Hillary Suspension Bridge, we begin a steep, challenging climb. Halfway up, you may catch your first glimpse of Mt. Everest before arriving at the vibrant hub of Namche Bazaar.

  • Trek: 5–6 hours (11km)

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Namche (3,440m)

To help your body adjust, we hike up to the Everest View Hotel (3,880m) for a panoramic view of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. We then visit the Sherpa Culture Museum before returning to Namche for the night.

  • Trek: 3–4 hours

Day 5: Namche to Tengboche (3,860m)

A smooth trail leads us with stunning views of the peaks. We descend to the river for lunch at Phunki Thenga and then tackle a steady climb through rhododendron forests to reach Tengboche, home to the region's largest Buddhist monastery.

  • Trek: 5–6 hours (10km)

  • Accomodation: Tea house on Tengboche

Day 6: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410m)

We descend to Debuche and cross the Imja Khola. The landscape becomes more "alpine" and rugged as we pass the village of Pangboche. By afternoon, we reach the beautiful summer settlement of Dingboche, surrounded by stone walls to protect crops from the wind.

  • Trek: 5–6 hours (11km)

Lukla Flight

Most trekkers reach the Everest region via a short, scenic flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport (LUA) in Lukla. During the peak trekking seasons (March–May and October–November), flights are often rerouted to depart from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu to reduce air traffic congestion.

  • From Kathmandu: A 30–35 minute flight.

  • From Manthali (Ramechhap): A 15–20 minute flight, but requires a 4–5 hour drive from Kathmandu (often starting at 2:00 AM).

  • Baggage Limit: Strictly 15 kg total (10 kg checked + 5 kg carry-on). Excess weight is charged approximately $1 per kg.

Frequently Asked Questions

How difficult is the 14-day Everest Base Camp trek?

The trek is graded as moderate to strenuous. While it doesn’t require technical climbing skills, it involves walking 5–8 hours daily on steep, rocky terrain at high altitudes. A good level of physical fitness and mental determination are key to success.

Why are there two acclimatization days in the itinerary?

Safety is our top priority. We include rest days at Namche (3,440m) and Dingboche (4,410m) to follow the "climb high, sleep low" principle. This allows your body to adjust to lower oxygen levels, significantly reducing the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

What happens if the flight to Lukla is delayed or canceled?

Weather in the Himalayas is unpredictable. In 2026, many flights operate from Manthali (Ramechhap) to minimize delays. If flights are canceled due to weather, we help arrange the next available flight or discuss helicopter alternatives to keep your schedule on track.
